Right to Choose

Right to Choose eligibility criteria

To be eligible for Right to Choose for an Autism assessment, you must be registered with a GP in England and be eligible for NHS care. The Right to Choose does not apply to residents of Scotland, Wales, or Northern Ireland. You must also be referred to us directly by your GP and provide a valid UK photo ID and proof of address. To note you must be registered with a GP and residing in England for the duration of your assessment and treatment.

How to get your autism assessment via Right to Choose

If you're facing extended waiting times for Autism assessments through the NHS, it's important to know that you have alternatives. In some areas, the wait can be excessively long, prompting the need to explore different options.

One viable option is exercising your Right To Choose (RTC).

Our service is available for adults, as well as for children aged 7 years and above, under the RTC framework. We are an online assessment service so you would need a suitable device (e.g. Laptop or tablet) to access your appointments. If you require a referral for both autism and ADHD, your GP would be required to complete a referral for each.

There are some exclusions from these legal rights to choice. These are where a patient is:

  • Accessing urgent or emergency (that is, crisis) care;
  • In high secure psychiatric services;
  • Detained under the Mental Health Act 1983; or detained in a secure setting. This includes people in or on temporary release from prisons, courts, secure children’s homes, certain secure training centres, immigration removal centres or young offender institutions;
  • Serving as a member of the armed forces (family members in England have the same rights as other residents of England).
